We are happy to announce that we are now able to call ourselves “The Specified Nonprofit Organization: The International Marriage Association”. We had applied for a specified nonprofit organization (NPO) designation in order to seek the advancement of healthy international marriages.
We provide a source of accurate knowledge and information on international marriages, working with experts from various fields' who are international marriage advisers, psychology counselors, lawyers and public notaries.
Among our main activities, we call attention to how the international marriage industry ought to be and counsel people who experience problems within the industry.
We also take advocacy initiatives such as discipline and education targeted at the industry.
We hope that our efforts fight prejudice against international marriages, and increase the awareness of unethical international marriage agencies, thereby eliminating the damage caused by them, and easing clients’ concerns on international marriages.
Your continued involvement is vital to the future prosperity of our organization.

The Purpose of Our Organization

Today’s ongoing globalization in Japan has seen an increase in the number of international marriages each year. In light of further globalization and the intake of foreign workers who cover the labor shortage caused by the low birth rate and aging population, the number of international marriages will inevitably continue to increase each year.
Unfortunately, as the number of international marriages increases in Japan, we have seen the emergence of many social problems related to this area. Such problems include damage caused by unethical international marriage agencies, marital problems after marriage, and foreign spouses’ visa-related issues. Another area of concern is the discrimination against international marriages itself, which is not completely eliminated yet.
In order to solve these problems, we gather and research accurate knowledge and information about international marriages, and make it widely available to the public. Therefore, we facilitate public education. At the same time, we help couples with advice and consultation before and after marriage in order for them to enjoy a happy marriage, which is our contribution to peaceful communities and Japan's internationalization.
In addition, we communicate with, advise and support international marriage agencies and matchmakers in order to improve the quality and ethics of their businesses. Alleviating agencies- and matchmakers- related problems and therefore contributing to the advancement of healthy international marriage is another goal of our organization.
The number of international marriages is likely to continue to rise. We would like many people to clearly recognize us as a nonprofit organization. Based on this acknowledgment, we are able to provide services with information and counseling. Our desire to be able to cater to the whole society with better services led us to obtain a nonprofit status under NPO Law and found “The Specified Nonprofit Organization: The International Marriage Association”.
Our vision with the inception of “The Specified Nonprofit Organization: The International Marriage Association” is to nurture a society where not only couples considering international marriages but also people around them and communities have understanding in international marriages. We strive to advance the well-being of international marriage couples through providing information and support services equally to everyone who needs them.
